Yes, unfortunately you are correct regarding the agile legatos. VSL have developed a new way of creating the fast legato patches. This was used in DS but both SSP and Elite have the old legatos which unfortunately suffer from artifacts when playing certain patterns. The video I made in that thread exposes this difference in a rather "scientific" manner though. When used to create real music, the SSP legatos are actually not that bad. But Duality strings legatos are definitely better. There are however other parts of SSP and Elite which I personally find better than DS counterparts, especially the staccatos. I should say also that I dont have SS1 and can therefore not comment on that library.Ok. I've found this thread:
The VSL Synchron Strings library comparison thread
But you can easily sell them - dollar for dollar Hi Doctor, thanks for reaching out. I think it’s not possible based on my current experience with PayPal, so, I don’t want to risk losing this unique opportunity to get my new workhorse library really. It’s need to be the one for a long time, I...vi-control.net
DuaS agile sounds WAY better than SSP agile and presumably SS1 fast legato.
Shame, I really like the sound of SS1, but one of the things I wanted from it was the DuaS level of agile legato.
The line you made for the testing is actually something I'd write, it's far from "rather scientific" to me.The video I made in that thread exposes this difference in a rather "scientific" manner though. When used to create real music, the SSP legatos are actually not that bad.
In that case, I am delighted that you came across that videoThe line you made for the testing is actually something I'd write, it's far from "rather scientific" to me.
I am pretty sure that I have read somewhere that this is not possible to achieve by editing alone. The new VSL legato approach requires samples to have been recorded in a certain way, which the SS1 (and SSP and Elite) are not.Would be nice if Vienna reedited the SS1 fast legato to be able to handle the same stuff DuaS agile can.
Shame, the sheer number of dynamic layers and repetitions in SS1 is really appealing to me. Also the sound is incredible.I am pretty sure that I have read somewhere that this is not possible to achieve by editing alone. This is really frustrating, yea. I'd sell nearly everything just to own a lot of VSL stuff. Now I'm without money and without Vienna libraries.I would happily sell my others complete orchestra but isn’t possible.
Two outta three ain’t bad - I bought SS1 + SSPro, have been working with both, alone and with Elite Strings. Definitely keeping the SS1 crossgrade - the tone really is gorgeous and the various legato transitions and dynamic layers do add something to SSP. The Optimized version download of SS1 - that only includes what isn’t recapitulated in SSP - was a nice thought by VSL. Definitely worth the crossgrade price.@biomuse Just buy all three
The optimized version doesn't contain some specific SS1 things though so I keep full SS1 instead of Optimized one..!)Two outta three ain’t bad - I bought SS1 + SSPro, have been working with both, alone and with Elite Strings. Yes, it looks from the comparison table like VSL’s judgment on what to eliminate was pretty decent, but there are a few things that are missing between the two of them, including big multi-velocity-layer dynamic arcs - I’ll need to free up more drive space to take advantage. The optimized version doesn't contain some specific SS1 things though so I keep full SS1 instead of Optimized one..!)
Well you’ve got a percussion sale https://forum.vsl.co.at/topic/61229/new-synchron-world-percussion/1Sale still seems to be up. I need this to end so I can see what's next (saving my vouchers for a Percussion sale, unless something crazy new comes along).
Not exactly a sale. It's a brand new product which has intro price discount. Evans is referring to the Orchestral Percussion (Vols. I - III). I was hoping they'd put those on sale alongside the release of the new World Perc. lib :( I guess they still could some time this month, technically.Well you’ve got a percussion sale https://forum.vsl.co.at/topic/61229/new-synchron-world-percussion/1
If it's okay with you, @Ben, that the settings are shared publicly? Would someone be kind enough to share the settings for the SSP Muted presets from the standard library? (For each section, if there are any significant differences, respectively).
Or, for the love of roquefort, an ability to install two licenses on one (1) desktop and one (1) laptop CPU at the same time. Is it really so impossible to classify hardware at this point?although I love using my synchron libraries back at home, I am increasingly scared of traveling with my ilok dongle fearing it may get damaged or stolen, and ilok cloud is really not reliable, definitely not while on the go. I know this has been discussed before, but I think at least a few of us would truly appreciate an ilok machine activation option.
