Yes - definitely - I once made the mistake of downloading all of HOOPUS onto a SSD with exfat formatting - it just didn't work and announced this by making a loud bang instead of a legato transition (in the end I reformatted to NTFS and redownloaded and it worked fine). NTFS all the way!

EXFAT works on both Windows and Mac and is great for compatibility but from a speed standpoint not so great.

For best performance its NTFS on Windows and APFS on Apple Macs. This is especially notable with nvme drives.
