50% off any Albion library. Your pick(s)?

Hi VI people!

I want to have my first budget Spitfire collection. I mostly sound design for games and visual media and orchestral music is not my priority but I may grab an Albion to fill the gap since I don’t have a decent complete collection. The point is: I have a lot of stuff to support these collections and I may not need a big library as you can see below.

I own Komplete Ultimate 13, Cremona Quartet and some Heavyocity stuff as Forzo,Novo,Vento and Damage which will cross at some areas.

What are your suggestions?
Frankly, I am not sure you will need more, you basically have the orchestral stuff covered, with those mentioned libraries you can get good results. However, if one were to pick an Albion in your case I would pick Albion ONE.

It seems like you can get Legacy + One for the same price as One. I know they are very similar, but completists might want to own both. For me, not owning either, One was 200 and Legacy was 100. I bought legacy for 100, then I was able to get One for 100.

Not sure if that means anything but there you go...
I can't get Legacy to show at $100...did you own other Spitfire products?

I'm on the Education tier and only have Labs...maybe if I had 1 of the Original libraries? Or do I need a different Albion?

Thanks to all for any insights. Best :) W

It's $124. EDU discounts don't stack.

Legacy is great, still use it all the time, so is Loegria. The latter is probably still my favourite Spitfire library of all time, even if the woodwinds are utterly unusable. Sometimes in sampling, and I guess life and art in general, you capture something magical on first try, and then when you try to repeat it, and make it better, it just gets worse...There's just something magical about the first two Albions...
What are your favorite patches from Loegria? I have great strings libraries like CSS, Vista, and Pacific. I also have Albion Legacy. I don’t know if Loengria would add anything for me.

Using the last few drops of my remaining blood plasma, I was able to raise enough money for Iceni and wrote a mercifully short piece combining it with Legacy.

Personally, I think they are pretty nice sounding libraries. Though I would say Iceni is more like an expansion pack than a core library like Legacy or ONE.

Need I say more?

😂

JKJKJ The strings are the standout for me - and the Horneuph - a lovely low choral brass sound. Loegria is a bit like Ark 2 - looking for that lovely soft sound. There are some truly random things in there too, but for me it was worth it for the strings and the Horneuph.

It's a bug with the website that has been there since they migrated from the old version, you just have to keep refreshing the page until it updates with the proper prices although I imagine Spitfire aren't incentivised to fix it as I'm sure it catches some people out making Spitfire extra money on those libs
Yes, I experienced this also, I had to refresh the page a few times... It was saying the Albions were £224 and £199 each - and the complete your bundle price (which incidentally is still higher than adding things individually) also seemed to be doing this. As someone who has worked heavily in web systems for over 25 years - very strange indeed - I have to say it doesn't inspire much confidence 'under the hood' - they need to get to the bottom of this!

I'm on the fence with picking up Solstice. I also like the concept of Colossus, but the demos haven't convinced me (of neither). I also currently lack specific projects where I can imagine using either of these. And already having Albion Neo (which can do most of this layering "mash" that I would use it for) doesn't help the motivation..

You also get some sackbuts, which are ok but still sackbuts, and some truly hair raising recorders.

Solstice to me is the most inspiring and interesting of them all. Tundra on the other hand is one of the most usable libraries. There is stuff in there which you may use literally on every single track you do. Both of them are quite unique.

Do you feel like Neo and Tundra overlap at all, or would you consider them complimentary? I bought Neo and enjoy it, but I'm trying to consider between Solstice and Tundra at the moment.

I think Tundra would compliment Neo more - they are both on the quieter more atmospheric side. Tundra feels icy, cold, distant where as Neo is more intimate, detailed, warm. Solstice is a different beast altogether and has more of a folk-vibe - so no real overlap there. Tundra and Solstice are my favourite Albions, so I don't think you can go too wrong with either.

Tundra it is. I appreciate the feedback!

This is a nice addendum to the Albions overview video above, this one covers the The Return Of The Original Albions:

I feel Neo is quite cold, especially compared to Loegria, at least with respect to the strings. Tundra, though, icy, yes, as the name implies. At the same time, there is a sense in which Neo is Tundra's little sibling (as much that as Neo is One's little sibling).

Tundra is a must have for almost every composer. Most of us tend to mock the "edge of silence" motto they used for it, which is quite true actually for this library, but it really falls into that small list of libraries you must have.
