A bit left field... Avantone Gauss 7. I've just setup a portable/laptop arrangement away from my main system (with Eve SC305). Thanks all for the comments!! There's so many good suggestions here. Plenty for me to learn! I've been a Cubase user now for over 10 years. I like it, but I'm a reasonably casual user and it's an expensive DAW for what I use it for. The last few days I've been trying out Reaper on a new laptop I have. I've been pleasantly surprised. I always saw Reaper as being hard to use, the GUI...

    VSL Synchron Brass

No probs. Just out of interest, I did a quick test before and there are some patches in Synchron Brass (e.g. Trumpet 1) where I found a usable range of about 110 to 127 (~17 total range) on CC1 for me controlling the Con Fortissimo layer fade in. Other instruments have a bit more usable range...

    VSL Synchron Brass

Yes, agreed, the developers often want to narrow down the range of the transitions, for the reasons you mention (avoid phasing). VSL Synchron Brass

I'm inclined to disagree. To my ear, on patches where there are 3 layers and a reasonably good setup of those layers, I can sometimes hear substantial differences just between a few midi values. It depends on how different sounding the layers are, obviously, but 127 values are certainly not...

Agree with @mducharme above. It will almost certainly be because the tone / dynamic range is just too different to do it any other way. NI Symphony Series-- Still not so great?

Hmmm... maybe. I'm more inclined to think you'll run into gaps that you don't expect with this library, and get frustrated. It's one of those libraries that does one thing very well, but really isn't very flexible. For example, there aren't that many legato patches. And if you then buy MA2...

Depends on the organ I guess, but many organs have stops that are almost inaudible, like a pianissimo flute or soft strings stops, to stops that are almost deafening, like the grand reeds/trumpets under high pressure. This is great work! And I've always liked this piece by Goldsmith. The difficulty is the way the horns are playing is different to what I've heard real players do here. The swell on the longer notes, and tending towards a brassier sound... I think they need to be tamed a bit.

L&SCS is a remarkable buy for the price. Holds it's own against the best, in my opinion. Articulations are a bit limited (expected for the price), although it does offer some unique features with the swells also. I wouldn't call it symphonic sized though -- it has a nice full sound to it...

Light and Sound Chamber Strings - user opinions?

    Another Hedwig's Theme Mockup

Like they are dragging the bow very heavily over the strings, and blurring the notes together so all you hear is the slur. If memory serves me right, I think the best mockup of the strings...
