What's new

I have spitfire chamber strings. will spitfire studio brass blend with one another?

Thanks for your time.
Hi, do you consider the Pro or Standard version of Studio Brass?

I was quite satisfied with Standard in the beginning but since I got Pro I don't even touch the Tree 1 mic (there is a second one in Pro) anymore. Just doesn't take reverbs as well - sounds like you put a room onto another room and in a way still "boxy".

Also, be aware that many people here dislike the sound and there are some bumps and inconsistencies. I personally love this library though (and yes, I also have other stuff, in particular Infinite Brass) but I mostly use it with 7th Heaven or Nimbus and hopefully soon with Cinematic Rooms.

Standard for now. I'm also debating on BBCSO Core as that has a lot.

I have Neo and Solstice but for now I'm debating on BBCSO Core or add a brass which I'd plan to use with my Chamber Strings which I want to make sure they blend or at least enough where I can get them close to working together

BBCSO Core is for sure easier to blend because it's already recorded in a hall. A bit of tail to both BBCSO and Chamber Strings and you are good to go. With Studio Brass you really need the right mics (or Mix 2) to have a sound with little early reflections so you can place them in a room with reverb.

Also, BBCSO will give you standard Percussion and WWs, both of which you don't seem to have.

Still, keep in mind that people around here are complaining about the brass of BBCSO. Also, BBCSO can't purge RAM which you can do with the Kontakt libraries.

Several years ago I bought the Spitfire Studio Core bundle in the hopes that it would be an inexpensive but satisfactory way to complete SCS. I've since ended up buying the Spitfire Symphonic libraries and absolutely never reach for the Studio Core libraries anymore. Maybe it's better with the Studio Pro versions, but with Core it felt like everything was covered in reverb that I couldn't get rid of from a small unflattering room, whereas the Symphonic libraries blended perfectly with SCS right out of the box.

BBCSO CORE Does have some instruments that I need right now...

Is there any brass library apart from SpitFire that'd blend well with Chamber Strings for around 300 bucks

Probably Cinematic Studio Brass or maybe also Century Brass. Both are at sale right now. I have neither of them, though.

Anything recorded in a big hall, which limits you to Spitfire, Orchestral tools, Performance Samples (doesn't have a full brass lib yet), and 8Dio century. ARO is fairly limited but the best engineered and mixed brass out there. I don't have BBC but the brass seemed to be the part that got critiqued the most fwiw

Cinebrass and Synchron brass are recorded in big halls but are a lot less ambient and more direct than the others mentioned above. But, would be easier to add reverb to blend with SCS.

Anything like CSB is very dry and will be very hard to blend effectively if you care about that. Even if you are very experienced it's a near-impossible task.

Oh and my recommendation would Berlin Brass if you can stretch to it. It's more flexible and better programmed than SSB on the whole.

Spitfire Chamber Strings was recorded in the famous Hall at AIR Studios, London. It is a part of Spitfire Symphony series (all of them were recorded in the exact same hall). So if you are searching for a brass library to easily blend it in the same room/mix with Spitfire Chamber Strings, I would strongly recommend Spitfire Symphonic Brass instead of Spitfire Studio Brass.

Okay, if I ever get good enough to earn some peanuts or at least a few bread crumbs I'll invest in something like Berlin. But for now I'm just looking to get my feet wet and want something good that won't hurt my wallet right now.

So 8dio is having a great Black Friday deal on this:

Would this blend with my Chamber Strings?

Again, thank you for your time and help :)

[EDIT]

Dammit, I don't have full version of Kontakt *slams hand on keyboard

What to do lol

Can you give any examples of what sound you'd like to achieve?

I just want a brass that's on sale (budget 300) that will blend with Chamber Strings and something where I don't need the full version of Kontakt

Well without knowing the style it's very hard to make recommendations. But at that budget looking to blend with Air studios, you're limited to Cinebrass (and use panagement+reverb to add distance) or SF studio brass (with heavy amounts of management + reverb). Or do a la carte Berlin brass/JXL.

There are still things like BBCSO and ARO that contain brass too. Cinebrass will be the best option if you want something bolder, BBC for softer dynamics.

You can currently get full Kontakt for $125 via a crossgrade from any Player library, fwiw.

Century Brass has its own issues but I’d recommend it over Studio Brass. It’s my secondary brass library after Spitfire Symphonic.
What does that mean crossgrade?

So if I bought Century Brass from 8dio I can pay a cheaper price for Kontakt?

No, but you can crossgrade from a Player library like Spitfire Chamber Strings. Google “kontakt crossgrade” and it should take you to a page on NI’s site where you can do it. It’s normally $250 but it’s currently $125.

Really? You can do that? How? I don't see that option anywhere.

[EDIT]
Oh just found it.

So is there a difference between Berlin Brass/jxl and The Berlin Series?

I'm no expert but I do want just a basic setup of a brass if that makes sense. Which ones should I pick?

I'm not going to do nothing fancy, just a few low notes that hold a deep sound if that makes sense.

Seeing as you have Chamber strings, I think Berlin would be a better fit. Berlin is more classical, JXL more aggressive and hyped. They both have wide dynamic ranges, but very different tones. Recorded in the same hall (although different seatings), and that hall will match Air well.

Getting Horn ens for melodic brass, and trombone ens + tuba for the low brass would cover you very well. You could add trumpet ens at a later date.
