What's new

United Strings of Europe

For $105, it's an absolute steal.
I still use these strings for layering. Excellent shorts, really agile legatos.

Thanks @rottoy ,

I just purchased USE. at $105. I agree, this is an amazing deal, especially if I end up liking them a lot, and using them frequently. That's like the price of a decent effects plugin these days. Haha.. I just purchased the SSL 9000 J channel strip for $99. (on discount) two days ago.

The sound is brighter than CSS, and the scripting is not as tight, but it's an excellent deal. Just get ready to do some modulation sculpting to get the best out of it. Turn off the included reverb and use your own.
At 66 $, the Angel Strings Vol.1 are even a better deal, but it's ending today.

They don't seem to have a Downloader app. only email links to download the libraries, correct ? or am I missing the downloader ?

Also, no serial numbers, so they don't need to be authorized via Native Access. (Correct ?)

I have United Strings. I love the tone of them. They sound great but different too than other strings I have. A bit of grit in them but still keeping a very beautiful tone. I can't say if they would fit what you would want though. Most people don't think as highly of them as I do. Maybe they are right.

I like the longs too personally I mean that was the sound that caught my attention not the shorts, but the shorts are good too.

Cory P has a vid review on them somewhere in which talks about the issues he has with them though he does say they sound great as well. A search should find it. The issues he has don't bother me but others have the same problems with the library so it depends on what issues you are ok or not ok with.

They don't have as many articulations either as one might expect from a string library. I've found myself at times wanting them for something only to realize they don't have the articulation I want so I have to get something else.

The mics are a plus as well. I'm not a Mr. Microphone guy, but I have gotten a lot of use out of the mic positions on these.

(I love BBCSO and Abby Road one just for perspective)

I think $100 bucks is a fair deal for them, but 100 bucks is 100 bucks.

I have to remember about the download. I'm pretty sure you have to download it in pieces without an app to do it. No native access as far as I know. At least I never did. It's like 8 Dio libraries, just a folder in Kontakt.

OK. Thanks for the helpful feedback.

I will give them as spin, and see how I like them. I will also try to locate Cory P's video on USE. and see what his take on the library was in his video. I have many other Strings libraries, never have enough of these things, I might end up using specific parts of USE with other libraries to get a custom string sound I need, or use them for specific functionality that I feel they are good at. I will also be checking out their Angel Strings Vol. 1 which I decided to purchase at the sale price of $66. It has some special articulations that adds to what USE offers.

How do you find the dynamics in the longs? I don't know for sure how many dynamic layers they have, but I'm assuming it's just 2. I haven't checked. I find this limits them, because the dynamics seem too close to me. The dynamics issue is similar to their woodwinds - although I like their woodwinds better, especially the flutes.

No. This is 100% Auddict material. Same players as in the Angel Strings Series, but recorded in a different room.

Ok. There is a commercial string library that was released some time back, where the samples were licensed (not stolen!) from another developer. Which, as it turns out, happens from time to time. I thought this was it, I guess I was mistaken. Carry on :)

Here is Cory P's Review Video, I haven't started downloading it yet, I will post my feedback on it once I have it installed, and have spent some time playing the library patches. The issues he mentions are easily fixed, they are not critical. His main issue was the $700. Price tag, so that's not an issue for me since I bought it for $105.

By the way, I was also checking the L & S Chamber Strings library.

It does sound nice, but I kind of prefer the way the United Strings of Europe sounds.

Any feedback on L & S would be interesting to read.

Thanks.

That's a fair point. I think you are right about that probably 2 layers. I've been using them for the tone in the range they can play and it's worked for me. Good for layering as well. But probably not a good choice if someone is looking for an adaptable workhorse. More of a color and it's ok for that.

Hi,

I just started playing/testing United Strings of Europe's Shorts, and Wow ! So far Loving them.

I also added the VelocityScaler VST to improve their playability, these are simply some of the best shorts I have played. The Staccato, and Sautille are superb, and so are the Pizz. I also like it that they have a handy ADSR Envelope adjustment knobs on the GUI to customize the Stacc. to taste, something missing in many libraries these days.

Next .. I will begin testing the Long Articulations , ie. Sustains which they name (Polyphonic), Legatos, Portamentos, Tremolos, Harmonics, Trills.

United Strings of Europe

Cheers,

Damn that’s one damn freakin tempting interface.

I don't have USE but when it was released I remember liking the sound a lot. It was the price that kept me away, sadly I missed this deal.
