Seeking for Orchestra Shared Session Slot

Hello,

First off-all and to the mods: please move this topic to somewhere else, if this section shouldn't be appropriate, thanks! ;)

Me and a client are seeking out for an orchestra, for recording possibly this December, or January 2019.

Specs and orchestra setup are as follows:

3.2.2.2 - 6.3.3.1 - str; 12 - 10 - 8 - 6 - 4 (still we aren't sure yet, as of we might add some single extra instruments here and there after all)
Music length: around 2 minutes
Difficulty: neither hard nor too easy - I'd say all in all mediocre
Needed scoring time: possibly 25-50 minutes of actual scoring time. This would strongly depend on the orchestras level as well.

Any ideas? Please write directly into this thread, or write me via PN/Mail, Thanks!!

PS: I recorded quite some times with Budapest Scoring. Amazing guys (and players) - which I just can recommend...although I would possibly like to try out a different orchestra this time. The problem seems to be that there aren't that much orchestras anymore who do shared sessions...and that specially for those I'd be keen working with. Last but not least the quality level we aim, should be quite high.

Thank You!

What is your budget?

Approx. 1-2k for the recording session. Maybe even a few hundred above 2k...(hard to say what is the client's uppest limit...but it's an indie project after all, so no huge overall budget - still we try to aim a sound as "huge" as any possible)

For that amount you would be better of by organizing the sharing yourself. Find 1 or 2 other composers and book a 3-hour session yourself and you get it just the way you like it.

+1

I'd suggest reaching out to some of the contractors and see what they can offer you.

Hey guys,

Yes, I know the Dynamedion guys and actually worked with them before for score-prep! They arrange recordings for several German orchestras (I think they are switching between those), as well as the Budapest Scoring Orchestra. But Germany seems to be out of our price range. I also wrote to the Glasgow guys before, and they seem extremely dedicated with their services, and great to work with - but they should be out of our price-range as well, and right now only give the possibility of rather small-size string orchestras. For any future score with a smaller instrumentation (strings only) I'll still keep them in my mind, as they seem to provide an amazing quality, with amazingly-passionate players as well!

And I've heard of creating your own shared session, by sharing session time with another composer, but never did that before.

In general any experience with just ANY orchestra would be more than welcome. Perfect would be something in Eastern Europe, and 30-45 min. scoring time for a full-sized orchestra; as quoted above we would need a 50 pc orchestra, but the problem is for those I've found, that they wont work for at least a half (2 hours), or whole (4 hours) session.

Eastconnection.org in Budapest and Tadlow Music Prague come recommended from me. They work in 3-hour sessions. If you plan well ahead you could ask them to tag along. If they have a 3-hour session with roughly your orchestral size you could ask them to have an hour after that and pay for the extra musicians needed.

FAMEs are great, FFM in Sofia also. But both of those are dependant on shared session availability unless you book a full 2 or 3 hour session. I'm interested in checking out the Bow Tie orchestra in Russia though - latest email "Shared session with 64 pc orchestra on Dec. 3rd ( $859 / 30 min)" - you can book in 30min blocks so this one could be a good fit for you.

Hello Frederic,

My dear friend and conductor François Rousselot regularly organizes shared sessions with the Budapest Symphony Orchestra and Brastislva. I'm pretty sure he will have a session in January with Budapest. I recorded with the orchestra several times, he's really a great conductor, one of the best I ever had: he's reliable, efficient and careful, and has a great resumé. In regard of what you're asking, his services will be completly in your budget (he's far less expansive than companies like Dynamedion because he does not take any margin at all). I can send you the details and music samples in PM if you want.

Sure YuHirá - that would certainly of interest!

Thanks to all others for your encouragement as well. As far as Moscow-Scoring; I actually saw the session live yesterday (partly). They seem to have really good strings especially.

Hey guys,

I am still seeking for a (mid, or better end of) January shared session slot.

Would love to record especially in Prague, but would be very much open to other spots as well. We would need 1-2 session slots (30-60 minutes) - depending of the strength of the orchestra as well.

If anybody of you guys plans anything, I'd love to know via PM.

Cheers!
-Frederic
