| Anyone else having issues with GVI and the new eLicenser software? |

I just installed the new eLicenser software to replace the Syncrosoft software my dongles used to use. Everything else - mainly VSL stuff - still works fine, but GVI refuses to load now. The license appears in the licenser software but GVI isn't communicating correctly with the new driver. The eLicenser website suggests contacting the manufacturer of the software, which of course could be a little tough given that Tascam has shut down its Gigastudio operations.
I'm curious if anyone else has encountered this problem, and if they have been able to find a way to get around it. |

Funny, I just installed GVI on my Vista 64 machine today to use it with VE Pro and I have the exact same problem. But no solution yet...elicenser is really a PITA.
And like you I'm not sure who to contact with this problem. |

For some reason when I plugged my dongle into a USB port I hadn't used it in before, GVI started working again - until I restarted the computer. Now I've done that trick as many times as I can, as I've had the dongle in all 8 ports. This is infuriating, especially given Steinberg's "don't look at us" attitude about problems with individual pieces of licensed software.
I'm just crossing my fingers that someone who has successfully dealt with this issue might see this thread |

Well I use a hub because of the external power.
USB ports have to often share IRQ's w/other peripherals and even just a USB powered keyboard controller can flucuate the signal strength.
I have a stuffed iLok and Synrosoft dongle, but by years end I will no longer be needing Cubase, Giga/GVI, Sonalksiss, Softube or Algorhytmix plugs.
My DSP rack is overpowered and the plugs are on par with the 12-1600 top shelf VST FX so bye-bye to these PITA 29 cent pieces of s@#t.
The idea of thousands of dollars of high tech kit being stuffed onto a Chinese peice of crap is unnacceptable. Beside Cubase isn't needed as Reaper has bypassed it for my needs and although I shall sorely miss GS4/GVI, there's no sense feeding a dead horse.
I will always love Giga though as I had a rack of samplers way back then and Giga/Scope DAW's were just a GodSend to me.
But YamaBerg can sniff my Choney's............ |

It worked for me in W7x64. I just plugged the dongle in and it worked fine. |

Yes, I had this problem, and I found a workaround:
The registry location GVI apps look in for the syncrosoft info (specifically the list of plugged-in license dongles) is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\SynasUSB\Enum
As long as the older 32-bit syncrosoft driver is being used, that is where the info will be, but if the Syncrosoft driver is upgraded to eLicenser 64-bit version this location changes to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\synusb64\Enum
Of course GVI and other VI's that use GVI don't know that the location has changed. If you manually recreate the same registry values found in the new location in the location that GVI apps look for them, it will make the GVI apps work. |

Chimuelo, you know you can transfer licenses between dongles? Put them all on one dongle. Then take apart one of those PCI USB cards, the kind that goes in a PCI slot and has the raw cable headers on the other end. Attach the headers to the motherboard, plug the dongle into the USB side, and use cable ties to attach it somewhere inside your PC case. Now you don't have to worry about hubs, stolen or broken dongles. |

Man, I hear you. But every time I try to switch, I remember why I keep putting up with Giga. Like when I try to run Kontakt on my 8-core Mac Pro, and was told I need to set the latency to at least 512 for Kontakt to run properly. Gah! I like it better at 64. |

New to the forum, but Hans Adamson sent me here for questions about using Malmsjo and GVI. All was well until I had to re-configure a new computer. When I went to install Malmsjo with GVI and the syncrosoft dongle, everything looked good except that Malmsjo GVI would not appear in Sonar 8.5. I tried the usual....deleting all the plugin locations, then re-installing them. No go. Tried to open Malmsjo GVI as stand-alone, and got "GVI hosting shell has encountered a problem and needs to close." I opened LCC but nothing is obvious for a cure.
Any help is greatly appreciated. |
