Alphatrack question...

Is it possible to use the fader and the three knobs for controlling midi CC data? I'm just wondering how customizable the unit is. I'm getting rid of my keystationpro88 and getting a digital piano so I'll need at least a few knobs for mod wheel, CC11, CC7 data and at the moment I'd rather look for something smaller than say the BCF2000.

Thanks!

Unfortunately it's not customizable at all, other than anything your DAW allows for. If you're a Logic user and you're not afraid to dive into expert controller mapping, you can redefine things; other than that it uses its own protocol and maps its controllers automatically.

Ah, suck. I figured. Thank you very much though! Maybe I should look at something more like the ZeRO SL MkII from Novation...

...or TouchOSC if you have an iPhone or iPad. Pretty insane what you can do with that!

Otherwise, Korg's Nano Kontrol is pretty slick for only $50. The faders suck but they get the job done, and the knobs actually feel decent considering the price. You also get 4 scenes, so that's essentially 27 assignable knobs & 96 buttons. I've set mine up with Logic and it works perfectly!

Thanks Jim! I had forgotten about that one. That actually seems like it would work quite nicely for simple CC1, CC11, etc. action. I know it's pretty lightweight-- but does it at least stay put when you're moving the faders around or does the unit move as well? That'd be a little frustrating!

Thanks again

Happy to help! It actually stays put really well - it has little rubber feet that keep it in place. It's a great little box for $49! I've even managed to assign the knobs to zoom & scroll in Logic... not hard to do.

Enjoy!
